Are your students asking about AI?
According to a recent article from Higher Ed Dive, colleges are increasingly investing in AI-specific degrees and integrating AI literacy across various disciplines.
"Conferrals of AI-related undergraduate and master’s degrees — which include computer science and cybersecurity — have increased about 120% since 2011, according to a 2023 report from CSET. In 2021, colleges conferred over 140,000 bachelor’s degrees and roughly 70,000 master’s degrees related to AI."
To meet both growing student demand and the anticipated rise in AI-related employment, institutions are adopting AI in two primary avenues:
This approach attracts prospective students seeking relevant and future-proof education, whether they're looking to be hands-on in building AI applications or simply want to know how to leverage AI in their respective fields. Both of these can lead to rewarding career pathways, as salaries are up to 40% higher for graduates with AI skills.
However, the article also importantly calls out that investing in artificial intelligence is often difficult and expensive for colleges as they require staffing qualified faculty and having a significant budget for computing power.
That's why many of the institutions that have invested in AI thus far are well-resourced with large endowments.
In order for small colleges with fewer resources to remain a viable option amongst technical & non-technical learners alike, a different path to launching AI curricula may be required. One that utilizes innovative models, such as program sharing, to offer similarly competitive programs that large institutions can, but for a fraction of the traditional cost and risk — without sacrificing course quality or faculty collaboration. Luckily, that's where Rize can help.
Our AI program offerings are tailored to help colleges quickly implement comprehensive AI courses, enabling students to gain critical competencies in this transformative field.
Rize’s Applied AI program is a highly technical program designed to be offered as a combined major or concentration for Computer Science and Data Science majors. This 5-course sequence emphasizes the applied aspects of AI providing students with hands-on experience to build custom AI systems, design neural architectures, fine-tune models, engineer effective prompts, design experiments, and create informative visualizations to communicate the value of their work.
Rize’s AI Literacy program is a flexible 4-6 course, non-technical minor or concentration designed to integrate with any degree, providing students from a wide range of academic backgrounds with the opportunity to acquire one of the most relevant skills in today’s job market.
Both of these programs utilize the courses you already have on campus. By simply adding 4-6 courses powered by the Rize platform, your institution can quickly begin marketing a new, technical AI program or other new degrees that are ingrained with AI literacy. As a result, these new programs can help your institution drive enrollment, improve pathways for your students, and ultimately stay on the cutting edge of innovation.
